Young Derek Old Derek Sexuality Crisis
“It’s okay to talk here. Say whatever you want. This is a safe space.” The younger version of Derek sneered, his arms tightly crossed over his chest. Derek resisted the urge to roll his eyes. “Really?” He said the word with all the disdain a sixteen year old idiot could muster. “I don’t know, Stiles told me to say it.“
“Hi there,” Derek said to the ocicat sitting in the middle of his new living room. “Where did you come from?” The cat’s tail just flicked back and forth, yellow eyes appeared to be judging him but Derek wasn’t sure how. It was odd at least, most small animals didn’t like werewolves. “You lost?” More tail flicking. “Shoo?”
“Derek,” Cora called from the guest room, “Who are you talking to?”
“There’s this weird cat,” Derek said, turning, “Did you leave my door open?”
Cora walked out and looked where he was pointing. “What cat?”
When Derek looked back at the room the cat was gone, “I swear it was there, a grey, spotted cat. Just sitting there, staring at me.”
“Seeing cats…you need some water big brother?” Cora teased.
“I need to get my books out of the moving van,” Derek replied, “Move your butt.”
“The heavy stuff… Such a jerk,” Cora moaned.
“I’m paying you in pizza,” Derek countered, “And you eat a ton of it! I swear there was a cat.” He closed the door and didn’t see the cat sitting on the lower shelf of his TV table, tail flicking in annoyance.
“Derek, you can’t be in love with him. He’s never going to fall in love with you.”
Derek has loved Stiles for a decade, and despite his best efforts that feeling has never really gone away. The only person who doesn’t know is Stiles – Stiles who has always disliked him, who is always arguing with him, who has never seemed to care for him.
They start working together, and Derek thinks that maybe this will be his chance to finally forget about his feelings and get over an unrequited love that’s lasted years.

Stiles hasn’t seen Derek in six years, so when he shows up at the bar where Stiles works, claiming to be some indie rock star, Stiles can’t believe it. Stiles has even more trouble believing that he and Derek are about to have a one night stand.
Soon one night turns into two and three, and seeing Derek causes old wounds to open for Stiles. As Stiles reconnects with Derek, he finds himself painting things he’s been avoiding, and he thinks maybe he’ll finally start to heal.
“It doesn’t matter anyway,” Scott tries diplomatically, “the Hales are still waiting for Derek and Laura. Apparently they’re on the same plane home as Stiles.”
“Hot Hale Twins are coming back?” Stiles says a little surprised.

Stiles experiences “irregular heats” – instead of the regular, week-long heats, omegas are supposed to have, Stiles, is one of the unlucky omegas to experience irregular heats. They are unpredictable. They can last for one day or ten. They can hit a couple of weeks unexpectedly after the last or not happen at all for like six months. It makes it hard to schedule time off school or work etc. because he never knows when it will hit. He has learned to roll with it but meets Derek and gets into awkward scenarios.
