Pizza Delivery Date

literaryoblivion:

I can finally share the piece I wrote for the @sterekzine! I’m so glad I was able to participate and be included in a zine with so many amazing artists and authors. I hope you guys were able to get a copy because it looks gorgeous! Check out their blog if you didn’t, I think they mentioned something about possibly doing a PDF only 2nd run??

“What’s on the TVs today?” Stiles asks, mostly to himself since Scott’s in the back working on pizzas and Isaac’s out on a delivery. Stiles peeks his head in the order window that opens into the video store next door and strains his neck to see what’s playing on the screens near the cash register.

He watches for a few minutes until he can figure out the movie–Vertigo–and shakes his head. “That’s not even the best Hitchcock film!” he shouts into the empty video store. He can’t see anyone, which is usually the norm–he’s not even sure why Finstock keeps the video rental part of their joint pizza and movie establishment open, but he’s not complaining when he can occasionally watch parts of movies while he’s on shift.

And maybe also flirt with the video store employee while he’s on shift, too.

When a new bakery opens in town, mattress store salesman Stiles forms some immediate impressions about its owner—which isn’t helped by the fact that everyone else in Beacon Hills seems to adore the guy.

Rivalry with a drop of miscommunication and those eternally pesky sparks of attraction.

DT’s TW Fic Recs #31

dragon-temeraire:

Some more lovely sterek fics to read! (All my other recs can be found here)

Derek From The Club

by @rhysiana

Pairing: Sterek

Why: I’m not usually one for outsider perspective, but this
one was a fun little treat! I’m always amused by the idea of Stiles being an
enigma to other college kids, especially when he’s also dating a ridiculously
hot guy. (One they think he just met).
It’s adorable how concerned they are for him, and the ending was super cute!

Part
Of My Melody

by hayesgeneration

Pairing: Sterek

Why: This is such a wonderfully soft, sweet fic. I don’t
want to give too much away, but I do love it when two people, hurt in different
ways, help to heal each other. It also features both musician Derek and musician Stiles, which I absolutely adore. It’s technically a Christmas fic, but I promise it can lift your spirits
any time of year!

The
Taste You Leave Behind in My Mouth

by monopolizeme

Pairing: Sterek

Why: This is a lovely, melancholy fic that gradually
resolves itself into a happy ending. Both Derek and Stiles’ feelings and
reactions felt very real, and the state Stiles was in made my heart hurt a
little. Seriously, if you don’t mind some angst, go read this fic!

Quit Dragon Me Around by WonderWolf (@teenshmolf)

Pairing: Sterek

Why: This is one of my fave fics ever! It’s one of the most
unique takes on dragon biology that I’ve seen, and honestly Stiles and Scott
make perfect dragons. Then you have Derek the werewolf, who eventually figures
out he’s being an asshole and fixes it. Seriously, it’s so good, just read
it!

There’s no such thing as ghosts

Sterek. 1200 words

“I just, I don’t understand!” Stiles throws his hands into the air, ignoring the loud exasperated sigh behind him. “How can you not believe in ghosts?”

“It’s easy,” Derek growls. “They’re not real.”

“Yeah, like werewolves aren’t real,” Stiles spins to stab at Derek’s chest with his finger. “And banshees and kanima’s and motherfucking ghost riders. Oh-“ his face lights up. “Ghost riders. There is your definitive proof right there.”

“The Ghost Rider’s weren’t actual ghosts,” Derek argues. “And can we not bring up the time you were erased from existence?”

“I just- I can’t-“ Stiles turns away from Derek, training his torchlight on the shadowy corner of the room. “You’re a supernatural creature who doesn’t believe in supernatural creatures. How does that even work?” Derek squints against the harsh light when Stiles spins, pointing his flashlight at the werewolf’s face. “It’s mind boggling.”

Derek swipes at the torch and blinks to get his night vision back. “I believe in the supernatural,” he huffs defensively.

Stiles laughs. “Well thank fuck for that. Could you imagine? A werewolf who doesn’t believe in werewolves. You’re completely ridiculous. You know that right?” He laughs again. “So, what about unicorns?”

Derek rolls his eyes. “Really?”

Anchor’s Away

wellhalesbells:

here’s my piece for the @sterekzine.  still can’t believe they thought i was cool enough to participate!  proved them wrong about that, heh heh.

The blood sticks.  Not so bad as the guilt, but more visibly.

“He’ll live,” Cora says again.  She’s restless, pacing, can’t fathom why they’ve stopped.

Derek couldn’t keep running with literal blood on his hands, though.  The warehouse is drafty, leaking, and Derek holds his hands under the run-off where insulation and wood has been torn away.  He cuts himself on his own claws in his vigor.

Cora sniffs, watches, accuses, “You said it was getting better.”

Derek’s lip raises, pointed teeth dragging against soft inner tissue.

Cora attempts to wait him out, gets impatient, huffs.  Her feet thud across the floor, tread heavy and defiant.  A few boards rattle near the corner, then: “Here’s a radical suggestion, we could talk about it.”

“No.”  He’s not Dr. Phil-ing himself into a solution for losing his anchor, that’s not the way this works.  Even if it were, Cora’s touch is about as light as her stomp.

“You’re not angry enough to use it as a totem any longer; that’s cause for celebration not—” she jabs a hand at him, “this.  Whatever this is.”  She smirks, perks an eyebrow.  “Aside from the first step on a staircase towards forming an emo band.  Third, actually.  You’re already white and suburban.”

The animosity rankles, but it’s not entirely undeserved.  Cora’s the one who struggles with moderation, the one who leaves shady supernaturals half-dead, not Derek.

Not until recently, that is.

If only it were as simple as that.  His claws dig deep into his own palms as he balls his fists—if the blood’s sticking with him, he’ll be damned if it’s anyone else’s.  “Anger isn’t the problem.”

“If that’s your anchor then—” She stops, backing up a step in her two-step solution to any potential roadblock: identify the problem, demolish the problem.  “That isn’t your anchor.”

Derek clenches his jaw, muscle ticking.

It’s confirmation enough.

“And your anchor now is?”

—The last thing he wants to discuss.   “Slipping.”
