you will go for like three months with nothing happening and you’re bored as hell and then in the span of two weeks eight different things happen at once – some fantastic and some shitty and some just plain bonkers – and you’re just running around like a chicken with your head cut off and no clue what the fuck is going on
There’s this guy that sits in front of me who you would think is a conservative redneck bc his entire aesthetic is southern lumberjack w boots and denim and hats but he’s actually one of the most inclusive and anti trump guy I’ve ever met and today he wore this hat that sums up his entire personality and I’m screaming.
Don’t judge a book by its cover; make cornbread, not war.
Hey, this is the motto of the Southern Foodways Alliance, and among other things, they have an AMAZING podcast called Gravy, which ‘shares stories of the changing American South through the foods we eat’.
You like this hat. Listen to that podcast. You’ll be happy.
Y’all need to stop being surprised by the radicalism in The South. The idea that Southerners are inherently more backwards is steeped in classism and ableism and erases all the awesome work marginalized folks are doing out there
hey guys unpopular opinion but you’re not a bad person if you don’t care about every bad thing happening in the world all the time, or if you do care but you’re not constantly reblogging posts spreading awareness and information
it’s okay if you’re just on tumblr to have fun and reblog things you like or that make you happy.
humans aren’t made to process trauma and suffering on a worldwide scale without any breaks whatsoever & the internet has created an unprecedented access to bad news so please never feel guilty for scrolling past it because you can’t process it! and you’re not doing anything wrong & there’s no need to feel guilty
I always hope that people who see all my activism posts don’t think I expect them to be the same. It makes total sense to just want to have a place to be into your fandoms. That’s up to you and you’re not a bad person for wanting to rest.
being gay has changed almost all of my/my friends interactions with the rest of society so PLEASE stop saying it “makes you no different” and “it doesn’t affect you” and “everyone is the same”. this is a childish, ineffective way to address internalized homophobia.
your intentions are good, but you’re erasing years of trauma, abuse and isolation within gay populations caused by homophobic violence.
closeted or not, every gay person has had their interactions with others shaped by fear of homophobic retaliation. it’s not as simple as “they like the same sex”. it’s cultural. it’s beaten into us from reading age to reject “gayness” and femininity.
gay people do act differently from straight people, not because they are gay, but because they are raised in a society that rejects them, even before they know they’re different.
Honestly I think one of the most empowering things you can do for yourself is to separate your negative qualities from your identity.
Instead of saying “I’m lazy,” saying “I’ve made a habit of not doing work unless it’s absolutely necessary.” Instead of saying “I’m a bad friend,” saying “I haven’t communicated as much as I should with the people I care about.”
By being specific about your problems, and by framing it as an action that you are consciously either working on or ignoring rather than an unchangeable part of who you are, you allow yourself to accept your mistakes and work constructively on them instead of pretending they didn’t happen or wallowing in blaming yourself.
look. sometimes cis people have dysphoria. sometimes trans people don’t. that’s just how it is on this bitch of an earth
How can cis people have gender dyshporia? And it’s NEEDED to be trans
ive said this a million times, but some cis people (especially women, and even more especially lesbians) can experience severe alienation from their gender due to the extreme expectations that come with it, but still not consider themselves to be a different gender.
also no it’s not.
source: some people are trans and don’t have dysphoria
i think the worst idea that this site has popularized vis a vis mental health is that its okay to treat your friends like therapists, and that its expected they react like one when you have an episode or breakdown
its a lot like approaching a friend and going “hey, you bandaged my cooking burn once, can you give me open heart surgery?” and getting upset when either they refuse to do so or getting hurt when they dont have the knowledge needed to do it safely.
people can support you, and they can help you out of rough patches, but relying on them for your continued functionality and stability is stressful and dangerous for everyone involved.
It never ended when we gained marriage equality. It won’t end until this entire map is blue. It won’t end until parents stop disowning their kids. It won’t end until bullying in schools and the workplace stops. It won’t end until hate crimes become a thing of the past.
