The Fox Prince

Depending on your perspective, I’m either cheating or being efficient. For the @sterekdrabbles prompt: kit, free, prince; and for @smowkie’s sterek drabbles discord challenge: write a drabble with a pillow/blanket fort; AND for the @teenwolfdrabbles prompts: reason (daily) and surprise (weekly).

The pile of blankets in the ballroom surprised Derek, but not as much as the fox kit that burrowed deeper when Derek started dismantling the structure. He sat back on his heels and crossed his arms.

“You’re meant to be abed, Highness,” he admonished.

The young shapeshifter poked his head free of the quilts, chittered at Derek, and retreated again. Though he knew he should summon one of the prince’s minders, Derek also knew Stiles’s reasons for wanting solitude. The paint on his armor was fresh, but Derek was still a sworn knight.

Why is that image so evocative and so cute? It might be the word chitter? Idk but I love it.
